Mouthguards

There are many types of mouthguards from the over-the-counter mouthguard to the professional custom-made mouthguard. The self-fitted, over-the-counter mouthguards are inadequate for effective protection, are often uncomfortable and can interfere with breathing. Properly made mouthguards are invaluable in protecting teeth against physical trauma for anyone participating in contact sport or physical activity. The lifetime cost of a dental injury justifies the cost of having a custom-made mouthguard in the first place.

Mouthguards act as shock absorbers by dispersing the direct force of trauma to both teeth and jaws. By dispersing this force, teeth are much less likely to suffer damage. Without wearing a mouthguard, when someone takes a blow to a tooth (particularly the front teeth), it is possible for the tooth to break, become loose, or even be knocked out.

At Now Dental, we make mouthguards by taking impressions of your teeth and gums. The impressions are then used to make plaster models of your teeth on which we accurately form your mouthguard.

Custom-made mouthguards provide the best protection due to their close fit, comfort and have maximum resistance against being dislodged.
